Bass at Musician's Friend

Bassist -
Brownie Talford
of Wilmington, DE

Brownie's musical career started long before he began playing instruments. Born into a household of party animals, Brownie was nutured and raised on a steady diet of R&B hits from some members, and Gospel from others. He learned early in life that music is a strong emotion that should be felt as well as heard.

And look how fast she's growing!

With formal training beginning at age 9, his first instrument was the flute, followed by the trumpet and trombone. As he learned to play these instruments, he realized that something was missing. He couldn't FEEL the music. All he heard and felt were those R&B and Gospel bass lines. So the transition was made from wind to strings. With the influence of such artists as James Brown, Bootsy Collins, James Jammerson, Larry Graham, and Stanley Clarke, Brownie was now well on his way.

Brownie's musical experience spans R&B, Gospel, Jazz, Rock, and Classical. He has performed in his high school jazz band as well as the Jazz Ensemble, Gospel Choirs, and the Classical Orchestra at Slippery Rock University. Although he has performed with various Funk, R&B, and Dance Bands throughout the Philadelphia area, some most memorable moments were with a four-piece band with 5 front-line singers called "Quiet Storm", and the Cross family Gospel singing group out of Newfoundland, New Jersey, called "The Soul Electors".
